Lottery Fraud: SIU Freezes Assets Linked To Arthur Mafokate, Others

The new year didn’t start on a grand note for kwaito veteran Arthur Mafokate. Years ago, he was accused of misusing funds belonging to South Africa’s lottery commission. The case appeared to have died down a bit.

That was then. It is currently bubbling with new life and Arthur Mafokate himself facing a new probe over the use of lottery funds. When the case was first made against him years ago, he had denied any form of wrongdoing.

But the government through its Special Investigation Unit (SIU) believes it has a strong case against the celebrated kwaito musician and has just secured, in collaboration with the Assets Forfeiture Unit (AFU) of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPO), a preservation order from Pretoria High Court to seize the properties belonging to Mafokate.

The assets to be forfeited include a farm and three luxury properties, one of which belongs to Lesley Ramulifho, a former legal representative of the National Lottery Commission.

The said properties were said to have been bought with grant money slated for use for community projects. The SIU gave an insight into this in a recent tweet which you can check out below.
