Love & Hip Hop South Africa: Mzansi Unimpressed, Expects Boring Run

Just recently, MTV Base Africa announced the coming of the reality show Love and Hip Hop South Africa, and many in the Rainbow Nation were excited as the platform would bring to them the lives, loves and stories of some of the country’s notable music voices.

The show would bring together exactly eight South African musicians of the rap genre and illumine their lives before the audience. And given that the musicians selected are already famous and even national favourites, expectations were pretty high.

However, not everyone was impressed with the show and some took to social media to share their displeasure with it. One fan pointed out that the show was unnecessary and it should not have been brought to South Africa.

Another even quarrelled with the list of rappers co-opted to appear on the show. And yet another thought an “Ex On The Beach South Africa” would have been more appropriate.

One entity that has yet to respond to the whole controversy is MTV Baser itself. From the look of things, the show will still go ahead, beginning February 27 on the DStv network.

Well, it remains to be seen whether there will be a change in public opinion when the show eventually airs later this month.
