Makgopa Is Back As Broos Names Bafana squad

The Citizen reports that Hugo Broos has recalled Orlando Pirates striker Evidence Makgopa to a 44-man provisional Bafana Bafana squad. The squad was named by the Bafana head coach on Tuesday for the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.

The national club is set to open their Group C campaign against Benin at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on the weekend of November 17 to 19. After that, they will travel to Rwanda to take on the Central African side on November 21.

The outlet further reports that Makgopa recently returned to the Pirates starting line-up and the striker has only scored once this season. He had played for Hugo Broos in the past, appearing in five of the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers, scoring against Ethiopia away in a 3-1 win. He also lost his Bafana place due to lack of game time. According to the outlet, squad will be trimmed to 23 players in the next week. However, there are some new faces in the enlarged squad.

With the inclusion of defensive pairing Cross and Themba Mantshinyane, Golden Arrows have been recognised for their fine start to the season. Cross returned to the country and has reignited his career at Arrows.
