Martin Brundle’s Great Formula 1 Mistake Has Many People Laughing

Nothing half as amusing as being mistaken for someone else — a legend for that matter. But that’s what played out during round five of the 2022 Formula 1 season.

For the first time, it was held in South Florida. As usual, stars from almost all walks of life were in attendance, from Michelle Obama to DJ Khaled, from Michael Jordan to David Beckham.

Martin Brundle was on the ground for his pre-race grid walks. And that was when the comedy of misidentification played out.

Brindle had approached a person he thought to be Kansas City Chiefs NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but he didn’t get a reply.

When he realised his mistake, he voiced the same, noting that was why the person ignored him. The said person was no other than basketball player Paolo Banchero.

At the end of that encounter, Brundle apologised and noted that he thought he was speaking to someone else.

Interesting, Paolo didn’t take offence about it all. In fact, he ended up sharing the encounter on his Twitter feed and enjoying a good laugh with the real Patrick Mahomes. You can check out the exchange below.

His slip notwithstanding, Brundle is a former teammate to several greats, including Michael Schumacher.
