A South African’s life is about to turn around for good, but he’s unaware he’s won a fortune playing the Powerball.
Ithuba, which operates South Africa’s national lottery, noted that someone had won an R165 million Powerball jackpot in Friday night’s draw. The body also noted that the winning ticket was purchased in KwaZulu-Natal.
The winner has reportedly spent only R150 and opted for a quick pick selection. By a quick of kismet, that supposedly simple decision would turn his life around.
The ticket – you may say its unknown owner – is the first Powerball winner this year and also the second-highest jackpot of the national lottery. The highest was R232 million and was won exactly three years ago – in 2019.
With the R165 million Powerball jackpot winner not yet identified, operators of the national lottery have asked patrons to check their tickets and head over to the nearest regional offices to claim their win.
Charmaine Mabuza, Ithuba’s CEO, congratulated the new winner, noting it’s encouraging to see people’s dreams come true. He noted how eager he is to see the new winner join the millionaires’ club.
