It has been amazing seeing the support the Black community has shown each other, standing as one in the fight against systematic racism following George Floyd’s death. The first memorial was held in honor of the late Floyd in North Central University in Minneapolis on Thursday.
It was attended by several celebrities including Kevin Hart, Ludacris, T.I., Tyrese Gibson, Tiffany Haddish, Master P and film producer Will Packer. Also in attendance were Reverend Jesse Jackson, Martin Luther King III and Minnesota senator, Amy Klobuchar.
George, a 46 year old African American man died after a white policeman, Deren Chauvin knelt on his neck for over 8 minutes. The news of his death led to various protests all over the US, and in various countries of the world.
Chauvin has since been fired, arrested, and charged with second-degree murder. Also, the other policemen involved, Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao, after being fired were charged with aiding and abetting murder.
