Matt Fitzpatrick Clinches Historic Win At The US Open

The “Battle of Brookline” ended with victory for Britain’s Matt Fitzpatrick in the US Open. The golf ace had competed against some notable names and left them in the dust.

The Sheffield native shot a two-under 68 for a six-under total to beat Scottie Scheffler (67) and Will Zalatoris (69).

His victory is especially significant because he’s the third Englishman to win the title in 52 years – an impressive record by any standard.

While the win might come as a pleasant surprise to many, it didn’t surprise the winner himself. Speaking on his victory, the 27-year-old noted that it’s something he’s always dreamed of and worked for.

He gave himself credit for where he is today and what he achieved, noting that he had worked assiduously and for a long time to get to where he is. And he was patient with himself.

With his win, he joins Tony Jacklin, who won the title in 1970, and Justin Rose, who won the same title in 2013. Will Matt Fitzpatrick’s record be broken? That’s one question pundits are currently debating.

As one fan had joked, it would be another triumph for the English if someone from the queen’s backyard should snap another title, bringing the British record of wins in the US Open to four.
