The South African Football Association (SAFA) has announced the tragic death of Moeketsi Molelekoa, an assistant referee for the Premier Soccer League (PSL), in a car accident on Friday evening. The PSL will be observing a moment of silence in his honor at all DStv Premiership, DStv Diski Challenge, and Motsepe Foundation Championship fixtures this weekend.

SAFA Head of Referees, Abdul Ebrahim confirmed the news and said Molelekoa passed away after a car accident on Friday (20 January 2023) night.

The refereeing fraternity in South Africa is saddened by this loss. May his soul rest in peace.

Molelekoa began his refereeing career in a local football league before being promoted to SAB and ABC Motsepe Leagues, and later the Premier Soccer League in 2014. His first international match was the African Cup of Nations qualifier between Zambia and Algeria in March 2021. SAFA and the football community have expressed their condolences to Molelekoa’s family and loved ones.
