Scandal is not something any company worth the name would want to be associated with, which is the reason many companies try to keep their records as spotless as possible.
Of course, part of this includes keeping employees happy and paying them their dues when due. Again, sometimes things don’t go that way, and employees fume and complain, sometimes to the media.
This appears to be the reality of Old Mutual right now. The company has been trending for over a week now on X, with former clients and employees complaining about not having been paid.
In a post on X, a user who claimed to be a former employee of the company complained that she was forced to pay Old Mutual R160k and the company mistreats not just staff but clients as well.
Similar complaints were echoed on the dame platforms, as former clients and employees try to either seek redress or closure. You can check out some of the posts below.
All @OldMutualSA financial advisors get fined all the commission they made when they leave the company. I am sitting with a bill of R160 000 that I have been paying for. The past 4 years. So, I'd all my 17 former colleagues. @OldMutualSA mistreat both their clients and staff. Sad

You pay back the commission you earned if the policy lapses. Always think of a multiple of 10, if the life cover premium is R500pm, the commission was 5k. So if you lapse that policy I must payback. If it 10 people same premium, I must find 50k, note that I have resigned.

Its the only insurer that include that clause in their contract. Just imagine poor South Africans are disperate for jobs only to find out that you can't leave, you have to keep misleading clients about policies that you know they won't pay due to poor underwriting.

At Old Mutual they on their own level when it comes to refusing to pay.
Remember this family that had to physically bring the body of the deceased to their offices in order for them to pay? pic.twitter.com/qjoKHjHdla

I lost my daughter, you failed to honour the agreement
I lost my wife after 4 months of depression, again you failed to honour the agreement.
Am not a prophet, but this is going to be the start of the end of this scam.

The whole drama involving the company has captured the attention of not just netizens but media personalities as well. In particular, Kaya FM host Sizwe Dhlomo has promised to do a show on the company.
The question now is, will Old Mutual survive the current scandal?
