Mpumalanga Man Shoots Son in Alleged Accident

A Mpumalanga man shot his teen son in an alleged accident and bagged two charges after SAPS found an illegal gun.

A man in Mpumalanga has landed in hot soup with SAPS after mistakenly shooting his 18-year-old son while cleaning his firearm. The man is currently facing charges of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition following an investigation by SAPS.

Police spokesperson Brig Selvy Mihlali said, “A probe had to be instituted to find out as to how the young man got shot. It was during the investigation that police discovered that the man was not the lawful owner of the firearm, which  belonged to his late father.”

Police also discovered that the man allegedly did not have a license for the pistol. “The seized firearm will undergo ballistic testing to determine if it was not used in the commission of crime elsewhere,” said Brig.

The man will reportedly appear at White River Magistrate Court on 8 January 2024.

Mzansi has reacted to the news on social media. Mmoye Enuel wrote, “Idiot nearly took a young man’s life. Firearms are dangerous that’s why you need training and license to handle it. I hope the law must deal with him accordingly.”
