MultiChoice Holds Production Training For More Eastern Cape Filmmakers

MultiChoice is currently holding training for youths in Eastern Cape on production skills as they aim to improve creative output in the region.

Known as the MultiChoice Talent Factory SA, the initiative was designed to cut across the entire continent and a number of other countries in Africa have been beneficiaries and continue to be.

The event holding at the East London International Conference Centre has creatives selected by the provincial department of arts and culture taking part.

Facilitators include: Sanele Shiba and Wanda Sondiyazi who are both Mzansi Magic commissioning editors; Darrel Roodt, who is a film director, screenwriter and the producer of the popular ‘Sarafina’ film, as well as Phathutshedzo Makwarela, who is a scriptwriter and co-founder of Tshedza Pictures.

Speaking on the goals of the initiative, Joe Heshu who is a MultiChoice spokesperson said:

Opportunities such as this, and particularly with the support of regional government and other key industry stakeholders, provide the perfect platform to identify and nurture aspiring young filmmakers.

According to him, the region had a lot of stories to tell and it is the goal of the training to help them position and get the stories out.

Concluding, he said:

Our intention is to immerse participants in the world of filmmaking so that they leave with a better understanding of the commitment and skills that are required to take this journey to the next level.
