How would you react when you learn that you, a black fellow, has got white relatives? Jubilation. Worry? Indifference? Fear? Well, Ntsiki Mazwai has just found she has white relatives, after all.
This might appear as no big deal until you realize that the poet and musician is (in)famous for her comments about white people.
The revelation she had a white relative came from her aunt yesterday 11 August 2020. According to Ntsiki Mazwai, her aunt revealed that Nsiki’s great, great grandmother was white.
A fan wanted to know how the poet was taking the news and she revealed that she was going through a difficult time.
For one who has always spoken about – really denounced – white privilege, the news of a “white blood” was as startling as it was embarrassing. And she is having trouble processing this reality vis-à-vis her earlier position on white privilege.
