Mzansi Applauds Kelly Khumalo For Withdrawing From Zim Event Amid Somizi Drama

South African singer Kelly Khumalo had the Rainbow Nation cheering after she removed herself from the guest list of an event that discriminated against Somizi for his sexuality.

Kelly Khumalo had been invited to the reopening of the Garwe Restaurant in Zimbabwe. The restaurant had closed in the heat of the coronavirus pandemic. But with the world returning to normalcy, the decision was made to reopen it.

Somizi had also been invited to the event, as a guest chef. However, the Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe had mounted strident protests and ensured Somizi was barred from entering the country.

The barring of Somizi had irked Kelly Khumalo, who decided not to attend the event, in solidarity. South Africans took to social media soon after to applaud her move, with some saying she had earned their respect.

By the way, Somizi and Kelly Khumalo are friends. In the days when Somizi was flying all over the place with Vusi Nova, the pair had invited Kelly to one of their rendezvous, where they had a wonderful time.

Interestingly, Kelly Khumalo was recently a guest judge on the reality show Idols SA. Somizi was formerly one of the judges on the platform. He had excited following allegations he abused his husband Mohale.
