Mzansi Celebs React to the #VulaPresident Protests in Durban

Various Mzansi celebs react to the #VulaPresident protests in Durban.

Things have been crazy since the beginning of the nationwide lockdown in Mzansi. A lot of businesses and sources of livelihood have been affected. While no one seems to be talking about it, artists in the country have been hit hard because a major source of their income has been cut off.

The ban placed on events has caused a cease in Live shows and gigs, which is where a lot of artists depend to survive. While some of the rules of the lockdown were eased with the level 2 announcement, the ban on gatherings and events remain. This means there is still no hope for artists.

Having had enough, Durban artists took to the N3 freeway to hold peaceful protests. Both sides of the freeway were blocked off and the hashtag #VulaPresident trended on social media. Artists including DJ Tira, DJ Chynaman, Dumi Mkokstad and more joined in on the protest. While some others supported on social media.

Reacting to the hashtag, Zakes Bantwini called on DJs and artists in other parts of the country including Limpopo, and more to join in. Shimza, DJ Maphorisa and more also lent their voices to the protests. They are asking that the country be opened up so they can go back to earning a living. Also, they’re asking for 70% capacity at events.
