DJ Maphorisa and Thuli Phongolo have just issued a joint statement following their altercation which resulted in her reporting him to the police authorities and having him detained.
Thuli Phongolo ha claimed back then that the “Gqom Waves” producer assaulted her and she had opened an assault case against him at the police station. He was detained and missed some gigs. And although he tried to get bail, he was denied by the police authorities, who told him that only the caught can grant him bail.
In a move that shocked many South Africans, Thuli Phongolo had withdrawn the case. This move elicited massive criticism from South Africans, who asked her why she wasted state sources by reporting the case when she wouldn’t pursue it.
What was most shocking to South Africans, however, was what followed next. The couple had released a joint statement. The joint statement was drafted by the legal representatives of the couple. In the statement, they noted that the couple has decided to resolve their issues privately.
