While some South Africans are having a good laugh, some are shaking their heads over the nickname given to the country’s female hockey team, AmaStokoStoko.
Some South Africans feel the name is degrading. As such, they are adamant no one should name the female hockey team that when there are way better names to give the team.
The Facebook page We Are South Africans had congratulated the female hockey team for qualifying for the Olympics while also mentioning the AmaStokoStoko name. This led to a conversation online, with the page having to point out that the name used was shortened from a much longer name.
Someone joked that he is waiting for controversial opposition party leader Julius Malema to comment on the name and another pointed out that the name is actually degrading. And yet another pointed out that they wouldn’t be happy if they knew what Stoko actually means. You can check out part of the conversation below.
