Amapiano is the rage in South Africa right now. So deep is the faith in this genre that some South Africans think a couple of amapiano songs, including “Umsebenzi Wethu” ought to have been nominated for and to have won the Grammy this year.
“Umsebenzi Wethu” is a song by South African disc jockey and producer Busta 929. Somehow, on the day of the Grammy Awards, Sunday 14 March, his song trended all day, with some South Africans who had listened to it claiming it is so good it ought to have made it at the Grammys.
Not only did South Africans think Busta\s song ought to have won a Grammy, they are also of the opinion other amapiano hits should have got a Grammy recognition as well.
At the moment, there are no categories to cover the amapiano genre at the Grammys, and it is doubtful there would be one anytime soon.
