Nadia Nakai Sheds Some Light On Reebok Contract Matter, AKA Issues
Nadia Nakai clarifies the Reebok contract drama AKA has been complaining about
Nadia Nakai chimes into the Reebok contract drama AKA complained about on Twitter.
We definitely did not expect what we heard today. AKA literally shocked everyone when he revealed he wasn’t paid a cent for his Reebok sneAKA collaboration. According to him, the brand believed they were doing him a favour slapping his name on the sneaker line.
The “F.R.E.E” rapper also revealed he only took the deal because he had always wanted to have his own shoe line. This led to an uproar by his followers who decided to cut up their pairs. However, Supa Mega was not having it. Unusually calm about everything, he explained that the brand was switching lanes to sell gym wears for women.
After much pressure from her followers, Bragga weighed in on it concurring to the fact that Reebok is shifting its focus to women. According to her, that’s the main reason for her signing alongside Cardi B.
Can you believe they didn’t pay me a single cent for this? … not one cent. https://t.co/EgW8AKkXBA

Probably never again. They refused to give me any sort of payment or royalty. https://t.co/WB0L9AzTcF

I had no choice … it was always a dream of mine to have my own sneaker. I guess that’s why I took a shitty deal in exchange for doing something for the culture. https://t.co/9UUKFEnnGq

Well, same thing that happens most of the time … you bring a brand back from the dead and someone in some office in Cape Town can’t stand to pay you more than they make in a year. https://t.co/0vwjLNXeqY

My deal expired in December last year. I haven’t been with them since. https://t.co/QQLvNMVtU3

At the end of last year they told me they wouldn’t be renewing my contract because “the brand” wasn’t about the Reebok “classic” direction anymore … they were now geared towards selling gym clothes to women predominantly.

I was then told I would be offered free clothing every month but i would no longer be paid my monthly retainer. Oh well … lesson learnt.
