Nasty C: Afrobeat Artiste Or Just Rapper?

Afrobeat artiste or rapper? Where do we place the “Zulu Man With Some Power”? What’s the difference between both, anyway? Does the South African musician actually care? Come along with us, if you please.

Nasty C recently noted that many people outside Africa consider him an afrobeat artiste and not a rapper. Speaking to Audiomack in an interview, the songster had noted that sometimes he would be in a meeting with executives and one of them would describe him as one of the best afrobeat artistes in the continent.

He said he doesn’t feel bitter about it because afrobeat artistes were among the first to break out in music from Africa. And it is much harder to break the stereotypes of a fine rapper from the continent as an afrobeat artiste, he said.

The songster noted that he began improving his sound when he realized he had massive influence over peeps who listen to his music.

By the way, following the release of his “Zulu Man With Some Power” album, the songster had toured Japan and released his “Zulu Man In Japan” documentary. He was recently nominated in the “Best International Flow” category of the 2020 BET Hip Hop awards.

The winner of the award will be announced later this month.
