South African actress Natasha Thahane has been dragged into Thuso Mbedu’s recent achievement. Thuso recently bagged the Film Independent Spirit Award in the best female performance for a new scripted series category for her role in The Underground Railroad.
Some tweeps think she’s lagging while another young South African actress, Thuso Mbedu, is flying the South African flag high abroad.
And yet some brought back a hitherto forgotten story on how she got a scholarship to study abroad. According to these tweeps, she benefitted from official corruption.
The South African state had reportedly spent R1 million to take care of Natasha’s schooling abroad. Some South Africans think the sum spent on her was a big waste, compared to Thuso Mbedu, who never received similar funding but is doing excellently on the international scene.
As far as some of Natasha Thahane’s critics are concerned, she should return the R1 million or else use part of the money to fund other students in need of sponsorship.
Natasha Thahane had her fans amid the crisis, however. And they have not been quiet. Some o them are asking why South Africans just can’t congratulate Thuso Mbedu without bullying Natasha.
But will that change anything?
