Ndebele Artist Esther Mahlangu Punched and Robbed

No one wants to face any form of violence. But, for the most part, of course, fate has other ideas. Fortunately, some people survive to tell the tale.

Ndebele artist Esther Mahlangu is a happy survivor. According to the South African Police Services (SAPS), she was robbed of her firearm and an undisclosed amount of money at her residence.

The elderly artist was said to have been at her home and about to nap when the incident took place. She had reportedly locked her doors and windows and was about to take a nap when she realized a man unknown to her was in her apartment.

The robber was said to have punched her in the face, partially strangled her to keep her quiet, and then made away with her firearm and the money she kept in her safe.

According to the police, a manhunt is on for the suspect, still at large.

Reacting to the incident, Lt. Gen. Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, noted that it was regrettable that criminals were targeting senior citizens.

The public is encouraged to report to the nearest station if the fugitive criminal is seen. She isn’t the first elderly person to have been robbed this week.
