Nichelle Nichols Of The “Star Trek” Fame Dead At 89

With the many deaths already announced this week, one may well say this is not the best week for the acts. Star Trek actress Nichelle Nichols is dead. She was 89.

Her son Kyle Johnson confirmed her death in a statement. According to Johnson, writing on his mother’s official website, she succumbed to natural causes.

She might be gone, but her son believes she’s a light that will continue to shine for all to see even after her death. And her family and future generations will see the light and draw inspiration from it. From the reactions to Nichols’ death so far, it’s clear that fans share the same sentiments.

Nichelle Nichols made an enormous impact on the music scene in her decades-long acting odyssey, and many in the space looked up to her until her death.

Nichols played Lieutenant Nyota Uhura in the StarTrek original series and was so good in the role that many recall her performance to this day. Interestingly, she had wanted to ditch the role in the flick, but Martin Luther King Jr. talked her out of it.

Looking back, it’s one decision that paid off, as many remember today for her splendid performance on Star Trek.
