Since its founding several years ago, the reality television show Idols South Africa (Idols SA) has become the platform of choice for people seeking musical visibility.
Some of those who had made it to the show have gone on to achieve musical success. Others have literally vanished from the music scene and have not been heard of again. Loyiso, Nosipho and Rethabile Khumalo are apparently still buzzing on the music orbit.
All three were on the Idols SA circuit once upon a time and wowed the audience with their performances. Well, the singing continues for them after. Loyiso has gone on to release several songs. He occasionally drops covers of songs by other artistes.
Rethabile Khumalo had her big break in 2013, when she appeared on the Idols SA circuit. Six years after, she found a spot on DJ Zinhle’s soaraway single “Umlilo.” She would comment that The Idols SA platform made DJ Zinhle to take notice of her.
Nosipho appeared on the Idols SA circuit in 2018, exactly two years ago. The year’s crown was won by then 17-year-old Yanga Sobetwa, who beat Thato Makape in a keen contest.
Anyway, Nosipho had gone on to release a couple of fine numbers, including “Don’t Kill My Vibe.”
