Notable Journalist Phindile Xaba Succumbs To Cancer

It was a sad moment for the family of the journalist Phindile Xaba as she lost her battle with cancer at her family home in Soweto last Saturday. She was 53

Her family confirmed her death in a statement, with spokesperson Mpho Mothapo noting that the family is devastated by her death yet comforted by the shower of goodwill from members of the public.

Mothapo gave some glimpses into her professional career, noting her days at Mail & Guardian, where she worked as editor of The Teacher.

Until her death, Phindi “Maphindisi” Xaba held multiple roles in different media organisations.  She was said to have started her career in the print media at the age of 17.

After that, she’d decided to explore other areas, delving into TV, where she held sway for a bit as a production manager, producer and researcher.

The news of her passing has led to an outpouring of grief among those who knew her and those who were somehow impacted by her work. She will be sorely missed for her contributions to journalism in South Africa.

Arrangements for her funeral are underway. The family is expected to announce more details soon. Stay tuned for updates if you please.
