A 13-year-old boy from Ohio has died after attempting the trending “Benadryl Challenge” on TikTok.

The parents of a 13-year-old boy in Ohio have announced his death following an attempt at a TikTok challenge. They now warn other parents about the dangerous trend that claimed their boy’s life.

Speaking to ABC6, the boy, Jacob Stevens’ family said he died after nearly a week on a ventilator. He had consumed 12 to 14 pills of the over-the-counter antihistamine while attempting to induce hallucinations. According to his father, Jacob and his friends were filming him for the challenge when his body began seizing.

“When he did, it all came at once, and it was too much for his body.” Jacob spent six days on a ventilator and died. His father called it “the worst day of his life.” The family is now warning other parents to monitor their kids’ activities online. CBS News reports that his father “also contacted local lawmakers about enacting an age restriction on buying medicine like Benadryl.”
