Orania Trends Again As School Teacher Molests Child

Orania, a white-only town in South Africa, is trending again. This time, it is not for its patent racism but for the alleged rape of a minor by a student teacher in the enclave.

Details about the incident are still sketchy, with neither the victim nor the alleged perpetrator named at the time of writing. However, it had brought to the fore, once again, the prevalence of sexual abuse in South Africa.

It was even more “damaging” for the apartheid enclave as it once again resurrected the advocacy to have the encalve dismantled or else make it a multiracial environment where everyone is welcome.

At the moment, Orania is an Afrikaans enclosure closed to blacks, and anyone who wants to live there would have to apply and be approved by the community. But there is no assurance that an applicant would be allowed to live there after an application.

The enclave, located in the Northern Cape, is pretty selective of who it admits. It has its own independent power supply, currency, and other symbols of an independent state.

The recent case involving a minor and her teacher is being investigated by the South Africa Police Services (SAPS). Its child protection unit has visited the school to investigate the child molestation case against the teacher.
