Ousted DA Candidate Tania Campbell Returns Ekurhuleni Mayor

A vote of no confidence saw her tossed out of power as Ekurhuleni mayor, but Tania Campbell has regained her position, raising optimism among the ranks of the opposition Democratic Alliance (DA).

The motion of no confidence was brought by the ANC, and the votes for her removal were slightly more than the votes against. The EFF refrained from voting. Well, all that is in the past now.

Following the voting on Tuesday, November 8, she beat the ANC candidate Jongizizwe Dlabathi, taking 124 votes of the 224 votes cast. The EFF also fielded a candidate, Nkululeko Dunga, but he withdrew along the line.

Campbell’s reelection appears to affirm her leadership and what she can do in the position she initially lost.

And her associates and supporters are ecstatic about her latest victory. Reacting to her win, DA Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga not only congratulated Campbell, he went on to speak about the events that led to Campbell’s ouster, describing it as an attempt to bring to an end the hard work and dedication the multiparty [coalition] has brought to this great city.

It remains to be seen how Campbell will navigate the role she once vacated after a vote of no confidence was passed against her.
