Patrice Motsepe Pays Political Parties Handsomely

A recent report by the IEC shows that businessman, Patrice Motsepe’s African Rainbow and Harmony Gold has paid millions to political parties in South Africa.

Sunday Live reports that billionaire, Patrice Motsepe was a big donor to South African political parties in the past quarter. The report also states that the ANC was the recipient of the single biggest donation.

Motsepe’s African Rainbow Minerals and Harmony Gold paid a sum total of R13,454,209 to the big 5 political parties between October 5 and 9 last year. The ANC reportedly received the biggest donation of R22,803,969. Its biggest donor, Batho Batho paid R15m to the party.

The Independent Electoral Commission report was released on Tuesday, February 22. Parties are required to  declare all donations above R100,000 to the IEC, while the IEC is required to publish a quarterly report on this. The recently published report shows that Patrice’s Motsepe’s African Rainbow Minerals and Harmony Gold gave the most donations.

They reportedly donated millions to the  ANC, DA, EFF, IFP and also to the Freedom Front Plus (who received the least amount of donations from both companies). It comes as no surprise that the ANC received the most donations. Motsepe is popular for his association with the party.
