It has been raining condolences and reflections ever since news broke of the death of Pepe Domingo Castaño. Until his death, he was a top-flight journalist with decades of experience on the beat. He was 80 years old.
In a statement, Real Madrid acknowledged his death while also noting that the club, as well as its board of directors, is saddened by Pepe’s death. It also acknowledged the late journalist as a critical figure in sports journalism in Spain
Pepe had a long and distinguished career in the field before death intruded and ended his brilliant run on earth. For instance, when he was alive, he won a Micrófono de Oro from the Federation of Professional Radio and Television Associations of Spain.
He had also been honoured with two Antenas de Oro awards, four Ondas awards, as well as the Joaquín Prat Radio Award from the Spanish Radio Academy – to mention a few.
The world of sports journalism is not exactly where the heroes are but in the sport itself. Still, Pepe managed to carve a niche for himself in the field and had many looking up to him until his death at eight decades old. So long, Pepe Domingo Castaño!
