Phala Phala Farm Heist: President Ramaphosa To Testify Before Integrity Commission

South African president Cyril Ramaphosa is set to appear before the Integrity Commission of the ruling African National Congress (ANC), according to the party.

It made the announcement yesterday, Monday, June 6, without specifying exactly when the president would show up before the commission.

The decision to appear before the commission was entirely the president’s – voluntary. Or so the commission said while commending the president for deciding to make himself available for a probe,

The prelude to this was the burglary incident at the President’s farm in Phala Phala in 2020, in which a heft sum in American dollars was stolen from the facility.

President Cyril Ramaphosa reportedly kept quiet about the incident and did not report it to the authorities. The incident would probably not have seen the light of day but for the case filed against the president by former police chief Arthur Fraser.

Fraser had accused the president of money laundering and concealing the heist on his farm because it would have raised more questions about the president’s integrity. After a brief silence, the president had confirmed that, indeed, a robbery had taken place at the farm.

It will be interesting to see where the case leads after the president’s appearance before the commission.
