US President Joe Biden could face impeachment inquiry over family business dealings allegations.
According to a recent report by Sky News, allegations surrounding President Biden’s family business dealings could lead to impeachment inquiries. The news publication reports that US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said he’s directing committees to open a formal investigation into a “culture of corruption” around the Biden family.
McCarthy revealed that over the past few months, “House Republicans have uncovered serious and credible allegations into President Biden’s conduct.” The move has been labeled as “absurd” by Democrats, while the White House said it was “extreme politics at its worst.”
According to a statement by a White House spokesperson, “House Republicans have been investigating the President for nine months, and they’ve turned up no evidence of wrongdoing.” It continued, “His own Republican members have said so.”
Biden has been accused of profiting from his son Hunter Biden’s foreign business ventures while he served as vice president from 2009 to 2017. The allegations were made by Republicans, who narrowly control the house.
McCarthy told reporters, “I am directing our House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. We will go where the evidence takes us.” Further reports state that he will meet lawmakers behind closed doors to discuss a possible impeachment.
