Protest Breakout At Hoërskool Jan Viljoen After Racist Attack

Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi, visited Hoërskool Jan Viljoen in Randfontein amid claims of racism at the school, west of Johannesburg. Lesufi’s visit follows a fight between pupils on Friday, which, apparently, was racially motivated.

Parents protested outside the school on Monday, saying there is a group of white pupils at the school who have been and still are terrors to black kids. One parent shared with Jacaranda FM News that the situation has been ongoing for the past four years.

“The children have been complaining about racism remarks by white children, they literally admit that they are racist, it has been happening for four years now. It’s like a time bomb that was waiting to explode and it exploded on Friday,” she said.

Parents, complaining bitterly, say they are actually tired of seeing the children continuously experiencing racism at the school.

“We are tired, enough is enough, enough with racism,it must fall, it must get down, we are done, we have heard enough,” said one parent.

One pupil said it is unfair to expect children to carry the daily cross of racist behaviour.

“We can’t do this anymore, we can’t fight for the same thing that our parents fought for, we are tired,” she said.

Private security is now monitoring the situation.
