After almost nine decades on the material plane during which time she accomplished so much as a singer and actress and ultimately earned the tag, deservedly, of “queen of rock ‘n’ roll,” American-born and naturalised Swiss singer Tina Turner passed away today, May 24. She was 83.

Her spokesman confirmed her passing, noting that she died peacefully at home. With her exit, continued the spokesman, the world lost a music legend and a role model whose artistic offerings thrilled millions around the world.

Her death was also confirmed on her Instagram page, where a photograph of her by Peter Lindbergh appeared and a tribute was paid to her memory and contributions to the music universe. “All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family.”

Tina Turner suffered bouts of illnesses in her later years. She was diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2017 and had a kidney transplant a year later – in 2017. She will e sorely missed for her contributions to music.
