Randall Williams, Mayor Of Tshwane, Steps Down

It is a cold goodbye for Randall Williams former mayor of Tshwane, as he formally steps down from the position he has occupied for a while. Until his stepping down, he had led a volatile multiparty coalition. But it wasn’t enough to enable him to hold to his position.

In stepping down, the ex-mayor believed that it was in the best interest of all – the stability of the coalition in the city – for him to resign.

He delved a bit into his time as mayor, noting that it wasn’t a perfect ride as he had his challenges working in that position, which had also enabled him to develop personally. He recalled his early days as mayor and how the ANC administration had been removed after “mismanaging” the city

Now, after a little over two years on the saddle, Randall himself is out, However, contrary to what many might think, he made it clear that his resignation was just that – a resignation.

He insists he isn’t leaving out of anger, resentment or frustration. He believed he had an “incredible” opportunity as mayor and that he discharged his duties to the best of his abilities.

It remains to be seen how things will pan out for the city of Thswane following Randall’s exit.
