Actress Regina King’s only son Ian Alexander Jr is dead. He died by suicide a day after celebrating his birthday. He was 26.
Regina confirmed his death in a statement issued just after Ian’s passing, speaking of how she loved him unconditionally – a love only those who have had children will truly understand.
She described her son as a bright light who cared deeply for others. Amid the family’s grief, she asked for privacy as the family contend with the tragedy of Ian’s passing.
Until his death, Ian had a close relationship with his mother. When she turned 50 last year, he had written her an emotional missive on Instagram, noting that he’s extremely proud of her and inspired by her love. He added that to be her son was the greatest gift he could ever ask for. Yup.
Not only did Ian and Regina share an unconditional love for each other, but they had also affirmed the same by having identical tattoos in Amharic stating the same: unconditional love.
Regina is reportedly seriously devastated by Ian’s death, especially so because he’s her only child. Ian was the product of her relationship with her now ex-husband Ian Alexander Sr. So long, Ian!
