Rudolph Gerhardus Snyman, professionally called RG Snyman, is a South African rugby union player who plays as a lock for United Rugby Championship club Munster and the South Africa national team. He was a part of the South African team that won the Rugby World Cup in 2019 and 2023. Snyman is widely known as ‘The Viking’ among fans and teammates in reference to his Viking-like appearance.
RG Snyman was born in Potchefstroom, region of the North West Province, South Africa, on 29 January 1995. He celebrated his 28th birthday on 29 January 2023. Snyman attended Hoërskool Monument, a renowned rugby school in Krugersdorp, Gauteng, where he began developing his skills as a Rugby player.
He later pursued a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Pretoria. While studying, he continued to grow his skills in rugby and joined the prestigious Blue Bulls rugby academy. This kicked off the beginning of his professional rugby career.
Snyman was in a relationship with Saskia Redelinghuys, a university graduate with a Bachelor of Commerce in Tax, which she attained with honors then. They began dating while they were in university. The couple got engaged in April 2019 at the breathtaking mountains in Marataba Luxury Lodges. She currently works as an accountant at Ernst & Young in Dublin, Ireland. She is also currently pursuing a master’s in business administration.
Saskia has a twin sister called Krisanka Redelinghuys.
Their wedding ceremony was held at The Greenhouse Café in Rosemary Hill Farm. The bride wore an elegant, sparkly off-shoulder white gown, while Snyman wore a tailored black suit. They did their honeymoon in the beachy town of Vilanculos, Mozambique.
Snyman does not share photos of his cars on social media.
Father & Mother
According to Vastore, Snyman grew up in a loving family who played a crucial role in his journey to becoming a professional rugby player. His parents, John and Susan Snyman, “instilled in him a strong work ethic and a love for sports from a young age.”
He is of Afrikaner descent, with his ancestors being originally from the Cape Colony in the 18th century. The Snyman family also has a rich heritage in rugby. His grandfather reportedly played the sport at a provincial level. This connection to the game sparked Snyman’s interest in rugby at an early age.

After concluding an analysis of his professional Rugby career and referencing various outlets, AllFamousBirthdays estimated Snyman’s net worth to be around $5 million. This remains an unconfirmed estimate because neither Snyman nor anyone in his team has revealed it to the public. Snyman is one of South Africa’s most successful Rugby players.
Snyman made the “shortlist” of Rugby World Cup players with the best or arguably worst hairstyles. He spots a Viking mohawk that makes him stand out from every other player.
In October 2023, he was reportedly behind the new looks” of colleagues Eben Etzebeth, Jasper Wiese, Jean Kleyn, Damian Willemse, and Cobus Reinach. The players underwent wild and wacky hair makeovers following their heroic and historic Rugby World Cup win.
