Robert Marawa’s Reply To Penny Lebyane Over Nathi Mthethwa’s Flag Pleases Mzansi

A little drama played out on Mzansi social media after Penny Lebyane, a broadcaster, tweeted her support for South Africa’s MI is yet of arts and culture Robert Marawa’s 100-metre, R22 million flag project.

The planned project elicited condemnations from many South Africans, who thought it a misguided initiative and a waste of public funds.

One such person was Robert Marawa. In reaction to Penny’s post, he clarified that the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower, which Penny had likened Mthethwa’s project to, were not flags and not vanity projects in a struggling economy of mass youth.

To educate Penny about the monuments she referenced in her support of Nathi Mthethwa’s project, he shared screenshot details about the French and American landmarks. You can check it out below.

His taking on Penny over her support for the minister resonated with many South Africans, and they supported him in their tweets. The opposition party, EFF, was equally opposed to the monument and issued a statement condemning it.

With the current storm of opposition, it is doubtful that the flag monument will eventually be erected. Anyway, we’re following events keenly and will bring you more details as they drop. Stay tuned.
