The Trace Wards have come and gone but the memories of that day will remain fresh in the minds of many, especially those who won something. Talking about winners this side of Africa, singers Nomcebo Zikode, Musa Keys and Robot Boii were among those who emerged triumphant.
Nomcebo Zikode was honoured with the Global African Artist Award. She was grateful for the award, which was reflected in her speech. In her acceptance speech, she thanked her fans for their continuous support, noting that she wouldn’t be there without their support.
She described herself as overwhelmed by the recognition. While Nomcebo Zikode, Musa Keys and Robot Boii revelled in their wins and celebrated the moment, South African rapper K.O., who was also present at the award ceremony, was a curious case.
The “Sete” hitmaker had six nominations, including for the song just mentioned, but he ended up leaving without any award, amplifying the reality that having several nominations does not necessarily translate to a win.
Anyway, as one South African put it, a win is a win as long as it was snagged by a South African. So the wins by Robot Boii, Nomcebo Zikode and Musa Keys stand as a win for South Africa as a whole.
