#SAMA26: Did Moozlie Shade Nadia Nakai?

This year’s SAMA (South Africa Music Awards), coded #SAMA26, is one of the most controversial since the founding of the wards many years ago.

The controversy stems from the choice of the nominees. Many music lovers are aggrieved artistes most deserving of the nominations didn’t make it. (Example: many think Limpopo’s Master KG and the venda artiste Makhadzi ought to be on this year’s nominees’ list).

At the South Africa Hip Hop Awards in 2019, Family Tree rapper Nadia Nakai scooped two awards, becoming the only female with such victory at the time. She was ecstatic and had no complaints back then.

However, she wasn’t nominated for the SAMA this year after she submitted her body of work. Displeased, she had described her SAMA snub as unfair.

This is where Moozlie came in. She scoffed at the idea being unfair, but without mentioning Nadia Nakai’s name. In a tweet on Thursday 16 July, she had asked why awards appear legit when a person is winning, and not so when the same person is losing.

Her tweet provoked an interesting conversation on twitter.
