It has been said that respect is earned, and one should never demand for it. So maybe celebrated musician DJ Maphorisa missed class on that day. Lol. At least, that’s what his recent comments imply.
In recent tweets, the “Gqom Waves” star had indicated he was instrumental to the rise of a couple of artists, including Mlindo The Vocalist and Young Stunna. He, therefore, believes the South African Music Awards (SAMA) should respect him for his contributions.
The SAMAs held its award ceremony over the weekend, and DJ Maphorisa happens to be one of the winners of the night. But it appears he was unimpressed with what he bagged – or perhaps he felt it wasn’t commensurate with his contributions to the industry. You can check out the tweets below.
DJ Maphorisa has had a good run in South Africa’s music universe. He was previously into gqom music. But he had a great awakening when his pal Wizkid heard an amapiano number and asked him what sound it was. Big Wiz loved it.
