Some were gold, some were dross. That’s how best to summarize the outcome of the maiden South Africa Amapiano Music Awards (SAAPA).

Controversy had trailed the award at inception, but it wasn’t enough to bury the excitement about it. And for winners of the award, it’s another reason to celebrate.

Boohle, Riky Rick, and Major League DJz are among the winners of the maiden edition of the award. The late Mpura also clinched an award – a milestone that will especially please Lady Du and the late amapiano singer’s other fans.
