Sello Maake Ka Ncube On Not Getting Johannesburg’s Market Theatre Artistic Director Position

Veteran actor and theatre buff Sello Maake Ka Ncube is out to fight for what he believes is his place in the industry after he was seemingly overlooked and Gregg Homann picked in his place.

The Market Theatre had announced the senior position of Artistic Director and eventually hired the historian Gregg Homann for the job.

The appointment bothered EFF member of parliament, Eugene Mthethwa, who posted about it on Twitter. In his tweet, he asked his fans who between Sellp Maake and Gregg was the best man for the job of artistic director at Market Theatre. The suggestions tilted towards Sello Maake.

Reacting to the whole drama and the outcome of Mthethwa’s poll. Sello Maake noted that some people on the hiring panel were not even qualified to interview him.

According to him, Market Theatre should have “come clean and stated that this job had a face, a name and surname before it was even advertised!”

This is one of a couple of times when the actor felt like the industry had not treated him fairly. He had previously complained about not being included in the Hall of Fame despite his notable contributions to the industry. Will this change anytime soon?
