Senzo Meyiwa Murder Trial Deferred Again

The twists and turns the Senzo Meyiwa trial is taking will most likely be a subject of a documentary someday. The murder trial has been postponed again, pending the bail application of one of the accused.

The case has been postponed multiple times in the past since the trial began. In that sense, perhaps, the latest postponement shouldn’t surprise many followers of the case. It should be noted, however, that exasperation is currently building over the sporadic deferments.

Five men are standing trial for the murder of the former Bafana Bafana goalie. Of the five, one is represented by Adv. Zandile Mshololo. Adv represents the other four. Malesela Teffo. Teffo had withdrawn from representing the four, citing ill-treatment by the police and witchcraft.

Along the line, though, he had returned to defending the other four accused. One of the accused, Bongani Ntanzi,m had no previous conviction and is seeking a bail application. So the trial has been postponed to next month.

Senzo Meyiwa was shot and killed in 2014 while visiting his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo at her family home in Vosloorus. The case has dragged on since then, and his killers have not been found. It’s unclear what direction the case will take following the latest postponement.
