The battle to expose Senzo Meyiwa’s killers continues with the recent revelation that suspect no. 1 had a phone call with the former Bafana Bafana goalie soon after he was killed.
Senzo was murdered in October 2014 in the home of his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo in Vosloorus. He was married to Mandisa Mkhize at the time he was dating Kelly Khumalo. She was said to be aware of her husband’s infidelity.
It has been a season of revelations after the case was marked for a retrial following the suspension of the previous judge, Maumela, by President Cyril Ramaphosa. A new judge has been appointed and the accused in the case are to be retried.
It was previously noted that one of the accused spoke twice by phone with Kelly Khumalo months before and later 15 days before Senzo Meyiwa was killed. The details of their conversation were not revealed.
The recent revelation, that one of the accused spoke with the late Senzo’s wife soon after his death, was pretty shocking to South Africans. The revelation was made by the state’s fourth witness Colonel Lambertus Styne, the same person who exposed Kelly Khumalo’s conversation with one of the suspects, Fisokuhle Ntuli.
