Sex Trafficking: R. Kelly Might Spend Decades In Jail

It’s not yet uhuru for disgraced singer R. Kelly as the prospects of decades in jail stress him in the face. The musician’s sentencing is set for today, Wednesday, nine months after he was found guilty of sexually abusing women and children.

In September last year, a New York jury had convicted the “Trapped in the Closet” singer, setting the tempo for what will follow later today.

Prosecutors say that the disgraced RnB champ should spend at least 25 years behind bars. If that should sail through and the singer should serve out the term, he would be 80 years by the time he served out his term.

According to prosecutors, the songster showed callous disregard for his victims and had no remorse whatsoever. The prosecution also noted that his action was fuelled by narcissism and a belief that his musical career shielded him from the consequences of his action.

In a counterargument, though, his defence team had said that he should not serve more than the minimum term of a decade as he’s not currently a risk to the public.

Will the defence have their wish granted? Or perhaps R. Kelly is in for almost three decades in prison? Time will tell.
