These are not the best of times for Abel Tau, a one-time member of ActionSA. The political party has just terminated his membership over rhe sexual assault claims against him.
Until the termination of his membership, he was the human settlements MMC for Tshwane. The politico, who stands accused of attempting to sleep with his friend’s wife and forcing himself on her, was placed on precautionary suspension in October pending the criminal case against him.
Speaking about Tau’s suspension, Action SA spokesperson Lerato Ngobeni noted that the politician had brought disgrace to the party. He said Tau’s actions cannot be tolerated, especially in a country rife with gender-based violence (GBV).
Tau’s (alleged) action, she believes, is an example of subjugating and objectifying women for sexual pleasure, and it’s something that should be condemned. She went ahead to apologise to the Tshwane community for Tau’s conduct.
Amid the plague of allegations against him, however, Tau, who is no longer MMC, insists that he is innocent of the charges against him.
With his insistence on his innocence, it will be interesting to see what angle the case will take and if he will eventually get back to the post he lost as a result of the allegations against him.
