South Africans On The Jailing Of Jacob Zuma

The spectre of prison looms for former president Jacob Zuma, having lost the battle against the Constitutional Court, which had found him guilty of contempt of court and sentenced him to jail for 15 months.

Zuma had accused the court of bias, among others, in his bid to evade jail. His supporters, too, have been angry with the court, vowing to resist any attempt to arrest him and send him to the slammer.

However the embattled former president had left his homestead in Nkandla, handing himself to the police, effectively ending the cat and mouse game with the law.

The news of the former president handing himself in reverberated across South Africa, with many in the Rainbow Nation weighing in on his decision to finally obey the verdict of the Constitutional Court.

While some social media users commended him for obeying the law and handing himself in, others were indifferent, letting it be known that their concerns were South Africans who were out of jobs and those who were homeless.

Among those who had weighed on is the President’s daughter Dudu. In a tweet a day ago, she had stated that her father was in high spirits and had even joked that he hoped they had his overalls from Robben Island
