South Africans React As SIU Freezes Assets Linked To Arthur Mafokate

It is not yet uhuru for kwaito musician Arthur Mafokate. Years after he was accused of using funds from the National Lottery Commission (NLC) for personal ends, and the case seemingly disappeared from view, it has popped up again, with the musician’s name shared on the Twitter channel of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of South Africa.

With the reopening of the investigation into the misused of funds belonging to the commission, luxury properties belonging to Arthur Mafokate and others were ordered frozen by the court.

This means that the kwaito musician can neither dispose of the properties nor can he transfer them. In the interim, the power to do anything with them rests with the court. You can check out the screenshot below.

The reactions to the latest round of investigation and the freezing of luxury properties belonging to the veteran kwaito musician have elicited mixed reactions from South Africans, with some of them stating that he had to “return our lottery money.”
