These are not the best of times for Squid Game star Oh Yeong-su, who has been charged with sexual misconduct and has been losing roles and endorsements as a result.
The actor had reportedly been indicted for allegedly improperly touching a woman in 2017. recalling what went down but without going into much detail, Oh had noted that he just held her hand to guide the way around the lake.
He said he apologized because they said she wouldn’t make a fuss about it. He insists his apology is not an admission of guilt, however.
The alleged victim had filed charges against the actor in December 2021 and the case was sent to prosecutors in February of the following year. Although the police dismissed the case in April, the woman appealed.
Following her appeal, prosecutors began reinvestigating the case. It dragged on to this point and started to affect the actor’s career.
The Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, for instance, had announced that it would take down ads that feature the actor promoting the government’s regulatory efforts. He had also been dropped from the Korean government’s official websites and Youtube channel.
It remains to be seen how the case will end.
