Suspect Back In Court Over The Killing Of ANC Councillors

The penalty for treason is not bread, and certainly, the punishment for killing a man is not a handshake – certainly not from a territory where justice is alive and well. Anyway, one of the suspects in the killing of an ANC councillor is back in court and might get a verdict on the case soon.

The Mokerong Magistrate’s Court in Mahwelereng township, Limpopo, will hold today for the ruling on the bail application filed by Mohlala, one of the five accused in the killing of two ANC politicians, ANC councillor in Mogalakwena, Vaaltyn Kekana (54) and Ralph Kanyane (32), in Mokopane, four years ago.

The killings at the time were thought to have been politically motivated.

The four co-accused in the case were arrested last year. Mohlala himself was picked last month, setting in motion the process for the trial. The news of the arrest of all five suspects was greeted with approval by most members of the public. Still, some have expressed fear that the case might just drag on unnecessarily like that of Senzo Meyiwa, who was murdered in the home of his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo in 2015.

Well, it remains to be seen what the outcome of the case will be, including Mohlala’s application for bail.
